happy father's day!

Monday, June 21, 2010

Hubby isn't really a dad yet, but I wanted to get him something for Father's Day anyway. We're big NFL football fans, and I really wanted to get him a jersey of our favorite team for the baby. However, I was very sad to find out that 12 months is the smallest they come in! Baby won't be here until near the end of the season, so he'd definitely need a newborn are at the most 3 month size. I could go ahead and buy the 12 month size anyway, and just have it really big or save it for next year. But who knows what size baby will be then, my luck it would be too small already. So sadly I walked away.

My next thought was to just get a baby onsie with the logo on it. I found a couple, but most of them don't come in very small sizes either. And if they did, I didn't like them. So I was kind of striking out on the Father's Day gift ideas.

I was at Target on Thursday and just 'happened' to be walking by the baby section and spotted this:

I fell in love.

I've been so good about not buying anything since we don't know if we're having a boy or a girl yet. But I just had to have it. The little elephants and the colors are just so darn cute! Plus hubby's nickname when he was young was elephant feet since he had such wide feet (it wasn't a mean nickname, he embraced it) so I thought he'd get a kick out of it too.

So Father's Day to my hubby! I cannot wait to see you as a dad!

update on hubby and iPood

Friday, June 18, 2010

We finally heard back from the lab yesterday with hubby's test results. Everything was negative. As in no infection. Part of me is relieved. He is ok. He's starting to feel better too. The other part of me wishes they had found something. Then we'd have a concrete reason for why he was feeling the way he was feeling, and then they could fix it. He's had stomach issues on and off for years, and they never seem to find anything wrong. But for now he is ok, and I am happy for that!

Monday night - after spending most of the day in the clinic, and then trying to go to work for a few hours - hubby was in a lot of pain and not a very good mood. I left him on the couch and went to fill his prescription. I came home with more than just Vicodin, I found this:

Hubby and I are both huge Apple fans, so this little shirt is perfect for us. I can just imagine our little 6 month old sporting this shirt with a cute little pair of jeans ....

It made him smile, and that was all I wanted.

an ultrasound ... but not for me

Monday, June 14, 2010

Well hubby ended up getting an ultrasound before me! It's been an interesting week already, and it's only Monday.

Hubby woke up with such severe stomach pains this morning he could barely walk. I'm a bad wife and didn't realize the severity of the situation so I left for work anyway. Luckily we were staying at the lake cabin with his family, so his dad brought him into the clinic. They were concerned about his appendix and his gallbladder. He ended up spending most of the day there getting an ultrasound, a scan, and hooked up to an IV in the waiting room.

The ultrasound showed such a high white blood cell count that they were concerned he may have appendicitis, which would have meant surgery this afternoon to take out his appendix! So they wanted to confirm that with a scan. That meant sitting in the waiting room for several hours, hooked up to an IV for fluids, drinking a little cocktail about every 1/2 an hour. Thankfully the scan did not confirm appendicitis. So no surgery today!

But with white blood cell counts as high as he his the doctors are pretty sure he has some sort of infection. They want to do a few more tests, including e coli and Crohn's disease. So they took a blood sample and sent him home to get a stool sample. We're currently waiting to hear back from the lab.

*** Happy he's ok for now and praying it's nothing serious! ***

pregnancy hormones

Friday, May 14, 2010

Wednesday hubby worked late - a fairly normal occurrence. I planned to grill chicken for dinner once he got home. Except, as he walked in the door, I realized 1) we are out of chicken, and 2) we are out of propane for the grill. Ok, plan B: burgers on the George Foreman grill. No big deal.

So I start dinner. Hubby is stressed from work but asks what he can do to help. I hand him the plate of hamburger patties and tell him to put them on the grill. He questions my choice of seasoning, we have a conversation about it, I get defensive, then he feels bad. We moved on.

As we are making dinner, he's telling me all about a very important meeting he had that day. One that is very relevant to our immediate future, but one I can't tell you about - yet. So I'm running around, keeping an eye on the food, preparing drinks, setting the table, and trying to listen to him talk and retain every detail. He, unfortunately, can't multi-task so he just paces as he talks. Then has to stop mid sentence to check on the burgers. Then has to back up and repeat himself. All making it harder for me to concentrate on what he's saying, at the same time remember what I'm doing with dinner.

Have I ever mentioned that I'm not a huge fan of cooking? I don't mind it, but its definitely not a hobby of mine. And nothing stresses me out more than trying to figure out WHAT to cook for dinner each night.

So there I am, standing at the stove. The food is almost ready. And I suddenly burst into tears.

What? Where did that come from?

Hubby gets a phone call. I walk into the bathroom, hoping it will just pass.

It doesn't.

So hubby gets off the phone, and obviously notices that I'm upset. He's good that way. The food is ready, but he stops me and gives me a big hug and asks what's wrong. But I don't know.

Maybe the subject we are talking about? It's a big life change. Maybe his stress is rubbing off on me, that happens quite often. Maybe that I'm tired, and it's only Wednesday. Maybe that, um I don't know, I'm pregnant? And suddenly I don't feel well and I don't want to eat anything that I'm making. Or maybe all of the above.

Or maybe it's just the pregnancy hormones.

how he saved our baby

Thursday, April 1, 2010

My last post was a little dreary - sorry about that - so how about a cute story to brighten things up?

The other night I crawled up onto one of our counter stools to see what was above our cupboards. The stools are only about 2 1/2 feet tall, and I use them as step stools all the time. No harm there, right?

Hubby wasn't so convinced. He took one look at me up on that stool and said, "hey you're pregnant," and promptly came over and picked me up and placed me safely on the floor. "There, I saved our baby."

Of course he was half joking. But it was so stinking cute! I am so blessed to have an amazing husband who cares for me. He will be such a great dad!

the luckiest girl in the world

Monday, March 8, 2010

So last night, hubby crawls into bed and says:

"I love you"

"I still don't know how I found you!"

"I love being married to you!"

"I'm the luckiest guy in the world."

Then this morning? He unloaded the dishwasher, while making me coffee.

Pretty sure I'M the lucky one here.
